Sciatica or sciatic pain is an irritation of the sciatic nerve or the nerve roots which make up the sciatic nerve.  Sciatica is a group of symptoms usually characterized by pain that travels down one leg (sometimes both), numbness, tingling, pins and needles sensation, and/or weakness in the involved leg.  Low-back pain may accompany sciatic pain, but not always.
